BLOG POST: 3D-Printed Chess Set

These are seven chess pieces I designed, these pieces are based on gears and converted by using "BooleanDiferences". Due to technical difficulties, the one which is most decorated has been abandoned, you can see it on the right in the first picture.

These were finally selected objects, some of them need a lot of supports, which is very annoying since I have to split them and build connection section. And there were no problems mentioned during the discussion at the meeting.

I inserted a picture and placed all chess on it. The color of the pieces on both sides is the same, it may be a little unnatural.

Similarly, for some technical reasons, I have to cut the pieces into multiple pieces (is this a pun?) and put them together as in the second picture above.

Here are the printed pieces, some of them need to be bonded by glue.

REVERSE ENGINEERED OBJECT

 HD Renders and Exploded View

This mechanical pencil consists of four parts, and I tried to shape my object as same as the real one, but there are some connecting parts (Especially the second half of the automatic pencil) have irregular patterns and connectors which are hard to measure and shaping, so these parts have gap with the real object. Also, due to the same reason, the internal structure of the automatic pencil I build is designed to be the simplest.

PROGRESS II

This is the rest of my construction process. To be honest, the construction process was not smooth and some parts have been omitted due to technical reasons such as inability to measure. In addition, there is a certain gap between my project and the real object.

 PROGRESS I

This week I finished the parts of the nib and holder, these two parts are relatively simple but the rest parts will be challenging.
